Барбара Джилліан Бріггс народилася 15 червня 1934 року .

У 1998 році вона була одним з ботаніків в Angiosperm Phylogeny Group[4]. З моменту виходу на пенсію Бріггс є почесним науковим співробітником Королівського ботанічного саду в Сіднеї[3]. Вона має ступінь бакалавра (з відзнакою) і ступінь доктора філософії[3]. Барбара Джилліан описала понад 280 видів рослин.
