Опис

Загальна довжина представників цього роду від 18 до 20 см, інколи зустрічаються й 25 см. Тулуб стрункі, хвіст тонкий. Колір шкіри коливається від місця розповсюдження, при цьому переважають сірі, коричневі та оливкові кольори. Черево піщаного забарвлення, хвіст має червоний, багряний, помаранчевий колір. Особливістю представників роду Acanthodactylus є на пальцях своєрідних «гребінців», утворюючи щось на кшталт «бахроми». Звідси походить їх інші назви. Наявність гребінців дозволяє ящірка «ковзати» по піску.

Спосіб життя

Полюбляє піщані місцини, напівпустелі та пустелі. Це досить швидкі й моторні ящірки. Ховається у власних норах, а також у норах піщаних гризунів. Харчується комахами та іншими безхребетними.

Це яйцекладні ящірки. Самиця відкладає від 3 до 7 яєць.

Розповсюдження

Мешкає від північної Африки до південно-західної Азії, зустрічається також у південно—західній Європі.
