WTA Elite Trophy 2018

WTA Elite Trophy is an invitation-only event.

The field consists of the top eleven players not already кваліфікувалась for the 2018 WTA фінал, plus either (a) the 12th-player not кваліфікувалась for 2018 WTA фінал, or (b) a wild card. The final two alternates for the 2018 WTA фінал will be eligible to play in WTA Elite Trophy even if they participate in the WTA фінал.[1] Point totals are calculated by combining points obtained from sixteen tournaments. Of these sixteen tournaments, a player's results from the four Великий шолом events, the four Premier Mandatory tournaments, and (for Top 20 players at the end of 2018) the best results from two Premier 5 tournaments must be included.

Two teams composed of players that did not compete in the WTA фінал singles (except фінал Alternates) or doubles competitions, using the players’ combined doubles rankings as of the Monday after the final regular-season Tournament of the current Tour Year to determine the order of acceptance; and up to two teams composed of players that did not compete in the WTA фінал singles (except фінал Alternates) or doubles competitions and that include at least one Elite Trophy Singles Qualified Player or Elite Trophy Alternate, using the higher of the players’ combined singles or doubles rankings as of the Monday after the final regular-season Tournament of the current Tour Year to determine the order of acceptance. Plus two wild cards. For each wild card not given out, the next highest pair of players shall become a participant.[2]

The singles event features twelve players in a round robin event, split into four groups of three. Over the first four days of competition, each player meets the other two players in her group, with the winner in each group advancing to the semifinal. The winners of each semifinal meet in the championship match. The six doubles teams will be split into two round robin groups, with the winner of each advancing to the final.

The final standings of each group were determined by the first of the following methods that applied:[3]

1. Greatest number of wins.
2. Greatest number of matches played.
3. In case of a 2-way tie:
   • Head-to-head results
4. In case of a 3-way tie:
   • Percentage of sets won
     • Head-to-head results
   • Percentage of games won
     • Head-to-head results

Kasatkina won Moscow

Касаткіна Дарія Сергіївна|Дарія Касаткіна had a breakthrough year making it to the top 10 for the first time. Kasatkina did not begin the year well, picking up her first win of the year Відкритий чемпіонат Австралії but fell in second round to Магда Лінетт. She bounced back by reaching the semifinals of the St. Petersburg Ladies' Trophy losing to Крістіна Младенович. However, she ended the year by winning her перший титул за сезон Кубок Кремля defeating qualifier Унс Джабір.

Sevastova reached the semifinals of the US Open

Анастасія Севастова began the year well by reaching the semifinals of the Brisbane International losing to Олександра Соснович. Sevastova failed to make any impact in the rest of the hard court season including a second round to Марія Шарапова Australian Open. She did not reach her next semifinal until the Volvo Car Open losing to Юлія Гергес. She then had disappointing results once again including a first round loss at the French Open to Маріана Дуке-Маріно. Being the defending champion Mallorca Open and reached the final but lost to German Татьяна Марія. Despite this, she lost в першому колі of Wimbledon to Каміла Джорджі. Mertens reached the semifinals of the Australian Open

Keys reached the semifinals of French and US Open

Медісон Кіз season was injury plagued as she did not do well outside of the slams and she also did not reach a single final in the year. She then went into the French Open with only one semifinal in between the two slams when she reached the semifinals of the Volvo Car Open losing to Кікі Бертенс. However, despite this she reached her first French Open semifinals again without dropping a set but fell to Слоун Стівенс in straight sets. At Wimbledon she had an upsetting loss to Євгенія Родіна in third round in three tight sets. She didn't perform well until the clay season reaching back-to-back semifinals Porsche Tennis Grand Prix and the Mutua Madrid Open losing to Коко Вандевей і Кікі Бертенс, respectively. She then reached the fourth round of the French Open losing to Анджелік Кербер. At Wimbledon, she was upset by Белінда Бенчич в першому колі, her first first round loss in a slam since Відкритий чемпіонат Австралії з тенісу 2016. Barty won Nottingham

Ешлі Барті reached her first final of the year Sydney International, where she lost in straight sets to Анджелік Кербер. At her home slam of the Australian Open, she was able to reach the third round losing to Japan's Наомі Осака. Barty did not reach a semifinal until the week prior to the French Open, the Internationaux de Strasbourg, where she знялася down a set через травму спини. Анетт Контавейт brokethrough the top 20 in 2018. Kontaveit was able to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open losing to Карла Суарес Наварро. She wasn't able to win back-to-back matches until Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, reaching the semifinals before losing to Кароліна Плішкова. At the Відкритий чемпіонат Італії, she was able to reach her first Premier 5 semifinal, before losing to Еліна Світоліна. She followed it up with another fourth round showing at a slam at the French Open losing to Слоун Стівенс. At the grass season, she didn't win a match until Wimbledon, where she reached the third round losing to Алісон ван Ейтванк. At the US Open, she was upset by Катержина Сінякова в першому колі in three tight sets, despite serving for the match in the third set. At the Wuhan Open, she was able to reach her first Premier 5 final but lost convincingly to Арина Соболенко.

Wang won two titles

Пang Qiang first half of the season was poor including a first round exit at the Australian Open to Медісон Кіз. She didn't win back-to-back matches until she reached the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open losing to world no. 1 Сімона Халеп. She the suffered many early loses following the Indian Wells result, but reached the third round of a slam for the first time at the French Open losing to Юлія Путінцева. However, Jiangxi International Women's Tennis Open, she won her first career title revenging her Wimbledon loss when she — Zheng з рахунком. She then reached her third final of the year at the Hong Kong Tennis Open but suffered her first final loss to Даяна Ястремська.

Zhang Shuai was the wildcard recipient for the event. Her best result of the year is reaching the semifinals of three international events, J&T Banka Prague Open losing to Петра Квітова, Japan Women's Open losing to Аманда Анісімова and the Hong Kong Tennis Open losing to Даяна Ястремська. She was also able to reach the quarterfinals of the China Open losing to Наомі Осака. At the slams she lost у другому коліs of the Australian Open and French Open to Деніса Аллертова і Ірина-Камелія Бегу, respectively. Also, в першому коліs of Wimbledon to Андреа Петкович and US Open to Гарбінє Мугуруса.
