Біографія

Вільям Генрі Гарві народився 15 лютого 1811 року під містом Лімерик в родині квакера та процвітаючого торговця Джозефа Мессі Гарві.

Початкову освіту здобув у школі в Балліторі (графство Кілдер). У віці 15 років головним інтересом Гарві стали морські водорості[3].

Вільям Генрі Гарві був куратором гербарію Триніті-коледжу[4] та професором ботаніки Королівського товариства Дубліна.

Вільям Генрі Гарві помер від туберкульозу 15 травня 1866 року у місті Торкіта був там похований[5].

Наукова діяльність

Вільям Генрі Гарві спеціалізувався на мохоподібних, водоростях, насіннєвих рослинах та на мікології[2]. Описав більш як 750 видів та понад 75 родів водоростей[5].
