Кара Вокер
Кара Вокер (англ. Kara Walker, * 26 листопада 1969) — сучасна афроамериканська художниця, котра у своїх працях досліджує расу, ґендер, сексуальність, насилля, ідентичність. Відома своєю живою картиною завбільшки з кімнату з чорних паперових силуетів. Живе у Нью-Йорку, працює на факультеті програми MFA у Рутгерському університеті.

Біографія
Народилася у Стоктоні (Каліфорнія) у 1969 році[9]. Її батько, Ларрі Вокер,[10] має художню освіту,[9] мати працювала адміністративним помічником.[11]
У віці 13 років разом з батьком переїхала до Джорджії, коли він отримав посаду в Університеті Джорджії. Навчалася в Atlanta College of Art (1991) та Rhode Island School of Design (1994).[12]
Привернула увагу у 1994 році своїм муралом з паперових силуетів «Gone, An Historical Romance of a Civil War as It Occurred Between the Dusky Thighs of One Young Negress and Her Heart»[13]. У 27 років стала другим наймолодшим отримувачем ґранту від John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. У 2007 відбулася повноформатна виставка «Kara Walker: My Complement, My Oppressor, My Enemy, My Love».
Живе у Нью-Йорку, з 2001 року є професором візуального мистецтва у Колумбійському університеті.[14][12]
