Біографія

Коре Бремер народився 17 січня 1948 року в Лідінге. Його дружина Біргітта Бремер також відомий шведський ботанік. У них двоє дітей: син Оскар (народився у 1981 році) та донька Ханна (народилася в 1983 році)[3].

1 червня 1976 року Бремер отримав ступінь доктора ботаніки. У 1972—1975 та 1976—1980 роках займав посади доцента та ад'юнкт-професора на факультеті ботаніки Стокгольмського університету. У 1980—1989 роках був головним куратором у Шведському музеї природознавства, відділ ботаніки насіннєвих рослин. У 1989—2004 роках — професор систематичної ботаніки Уппсальського університету. З 1 лютого 2004 року — ректор Стокгольмського університету[3].

Основні наукові досягнення

Разом із Г.-Е. Ваннторпом Коре Бремер започаткував використання кладистики у ботаніці основоположною статтею «Філогенетична систематика у ботаніці» («Phylogenetic systematics in botany», 1978)[3].

Працював над філогенезом та класифікацією різних груп родини Айстрові: провів значну польову роботу в Південній Африці, опублікував перший кладистичний аналіз родини «Tribal interrelationships of the Asteraceae» (1987) та написав ґрунтовну книгу про цю родину. Вивчав групу дерев палеотропічних дощових лісів (Memecylon, Melastomataceae), провів обширну польову роботу в тропічній Азії та вніс значний внесок у описи родин флори Цейлону. Вивчав взаємовідносини родин квіткових рослин підкласу Астериди, брав участь у створенні нової таксономічної системи квіткових рослин[3].

Розробив новий метод визначення основи філогенетичних дерев, відома як «Основа Бремера», вперше опублікована у статті «The limits of amino acid sequence data in angiosperm phylogenetic reconstruction» (1988). Також розробив нові методи аналізу історичної біогеографії та датування філогенетичних дерев, проаналізував вік та біогеографію квіткових рослин, зокрема, астерид та однодольних[3].

Нагороди та почесні звання
  • 1998 — обраний іноземним членом Лондонського Ліннеївського товариства.
  • 1998 — отримав Премію Ліннея від Лундського королівського фізіографічного товариства.
  • Стаття «Branch support and tree stability» (1994) названа Інститутом наукової інформації Сполученого королівства найбільш цитованою серед статей шведських авторів з сільського господарства, біології та охорони навколишнього середовища у 1995—1999 роках.
