Поширення
Рід поширений у Південній та на півдні Центральної Америки, переважно у Андах.
Опис
Багато видів пуйї є монокарпними, тобто цвітуть лише один раз і материнська рослина вмирає після цвітіння. Це невеликі дерева заввишки 1-3 м. Відома пуйя Раймонда, як рослина із найбільшим суцвіттям у світі. Ця рослина заввишки 3 м, але під час цвітіння у рослини виростає колосок заввишки до 9 м.
