Вид існував у голоцені у Новій Зеландії. Він був поширений у низинних лісах Південного острова. Вимер до 1500 року. Причиною вимирання, ймовірно, було інтенсивне полювання маорі.

Опис

Emeus crassus сягав 1,5-1,8 м заввишки. Як і у інших моа, у нього повністю були відсутні крила, було волосоподобне пір'я, довга шия і великі потужні ноги. Його лапи були дуже широкими, що говорить про повільність. Були знайдені м'які тканини тіла, такі як хрящові трахеальні кільця, залишки шкіри, а також окремі кістки і повні скелети. Ближче до голови пір'я ставало коротше, поки, нарешті, не перетворювалися на подобу грубого волосся. Сама голова була, ймовірно, лисою.
