Поширення
Реконструкція скелета
Птах був досить поширеним видом у Новій Зеландії. Мешкав у різноманітних низовинних біотопах (ліси, луки, болота) на Північному і східній частині Південного острова та на острові Стюарт. Вимер в історичний час, приблизно, у XIV—XV столітті.
