Біографія

Рольф Дальгрен народився 7 липня 1932 року в Еребру[3].

Отримав ступінь магістра з біології (1955) та ступінь доктора наук з ботаніки (1963) у Лундському університеті[4]. Під час перебування на посаді доцента Лундського ботанічного музею брав участь у ботанічних експедиціях до Південної Африки у 1956—1957 та 1965—1966 роках.

У 1973 році став професором ботаніки в Копенгагенському університеті. Тут він розробив свою систему класифікації покритонасінних, основану на значно більшій кількості класифікаційних ознак, ніж попередні системи, у тому числі на фітохімічних характеристиках (див. також хемотаксономія). Хоча система була вперше представлена данською мовою[5], вона швидко отримала широке визнання, особливо завдяки наглядним діаграмам, так званим дальгренограмам[6][7].

У 1986 році він був обраний членом Шведської королівської академії наук.

Загинув у автокатастрофі в Сконе (Швеція) 14 лютого 1987 року[8].

Рольф Дальгрен був одружений із шведською вченою-ботаніком Гертруд Дальгрен. У них було троє дітей: Сусанна, Гелена та Фредерік[9].

Вшанування памя'ті

На честь Рольфа Дальгрена названо південнафриканський монотипний рід Dahlgrenodendron J.J.M.van der Merwe & A.E.van Wyk (1988)[10].

У 1987 році в Берліні відбувся меморіальний симпозіум Рольфа Дальгрена.
