Олекса́ндр Шульгі́н (Alexander «Sasha» Theodore Shulgin; *17 червня 1925 року в Берклі, Каліфорнія, США — 2 червня 2014 року, Каліфорнія, США[1]) — американський біохімік та фармаколог російсько-американського походження, розробник багатьох психоактивних речовин.

Біографія

Шульгін відомий тим, що сприяв поширенню MDMA в кінці 70-х, початку 80-х. Він та його дружина Анна (Енн) Шульгіна написали відомі книги PiHKAL («Phenethylamines I Have Known And Loved») та TiHKAL («Tryptamines I Have Known And Loved»). Шульгін синтезував та дослідив велику кількість триптамінів та фенілетиламінів, включаючи сімейство 2C*, з яких найвідоміші — 2C-T-2, 2C-T-7, 2C-I, та 2C-B.

Працюючи на компанію Dow Chemical, Шульгин зареєстрував серію успішних та цінних патентів, це дало йому можливість отримати ліцензію агентства DEA на дослідження психоактивних сполук та свободу у виборі напрямку досліджень[2]. Свої психофармакологічні дослідження Шульгін почав з уже відомих галюциногенних препаратів: (псилоцибін, ЛСД, мескалін), згодом перейшов на препарати власної розробки[3]. У нього була група друзів з 20 — 30 осіб, з якою він регулярно проводив тести нових сполук. Кожна речовина отримувала рейтинг за спеціальною шкалою (Шкала Шульгіна), описувалися візуальні, аудіальні та фізичні ефекти. Особисто Шульгін випробував на собі сотні психоактивних сполук, переважно триптаміни (сімейство, що містить DMT та псилоцибін) та фенетиламіни (MDMA та мескалін[4]).
